NowMetrix vs. Google Analytics 4

Keep GA4 for reporting. Give the newsroom its own live view.

GA4 is a broad web and app analytics product. NowMetrix adds the operational view for the live newsroom: top stories, sources, pace, responsibilities, and agent-ready data in one focused product.

The real difference

GA4 measures the digital business. NowMetrix supports the live shift.

Google Analytics 4 covers acquisition, engagement, monetisation, retention, events, audiences, advertising, explorations, and data exports across websites and apps. Its Realtime report shows activity from the last five and 30 minutes.

NowMetrix is built around a narrower newsroom job: Which story is moving now? Where are those readers coming from? Is today ahead of its usual pace? Who is looking after the homepage and social channels? The answers stay visible on one shared screen.

Why newsrooms add NowMetrix

A live editorial view alongside the reporting suite.

Stories instead of a general event view

GA4 Realtime reports active users, sources, page titles, events, and key events. NowMetrix arranges the live picture around the newsroom: Top Pages include title, URL, author, section, current readers, traffic source, and momentum in one operational list.

The current day in context

NowMetrix Pulse compares readers, pageviews, and visitors with comparable weekdays and states whether the day is ahead or behind its usual pace. The newsroom does not need to build a comparison before the number becomes useful.

Responsibilities beside the traffic

The same dashboard shows who currently owns news lead, homepage, and social media. At handover, a colleague can take over a role directly. The live traffic picture and the people expected to act on it stay together.

Google Discover while it is happening

Discover traffic appears as a live source in Top Pages and Traffic Mix. Editors can see which stories are receiving Discover traffic while there is still time to update, follow up, or adjust the homepage and social distribution.

Cookie-free tracking by design

GA4 web tags use first-party cookies by default and support Consent Mode. NowMetrix tracking does not use cookies, and its analytics data is hosted in the EU. Consent requirements still depend on the publisher’s complete setup and applicable law.

Agent-ready without a developer setup

Google also publishes an official read-only MCP server for Analytics. Its setup guide requires Python and pipx, enabled Google Cloud APIs, Application Default Credentials with the Analytics scope, and configuration in the AI client. NowMetrix uses a hosted connection instead: add the MCP URL, sign in, and approve access. It usually takes about two minutes and requires no programming knowledge.

“NowMetrix was a great find! After GA removed the real-time portion of the tracker, we set out looking for a replacement. The NowMetrix tracker works amazingly well and provides all the info we need. We can’t see ourselves now not using NowMetrix to monitor our real-time traffic which is a must!”
